🌊 Flagship regional policy

The Kent Coastal Renewal Plan

A Flagship Policy for Thanet, Margate, Broadstairs & Ramsgate

Investing in our coast. Empowering our communities. Securing our future.

Support this plan

Together Britain Collective is proud to launch a flagship regional policy designed specifically for Thanet and the Kent coastline — including Margate, Broadstairs, and Ramsgate.

For too long, coastal communities have been overlooked — facing seasonal economies, limited high-skill job opportunities, stretched services, and housing pressures. The Kent Coastal Renewal Plan is a bold, targeted strategy to restore prosperity, pride, and opportunity across the region.

1. Cultural & Creative Revival

Thanet has always been a cultural powerhouse. We will place arts, performance, heritage, and inclusive celebration at the centre of economic renewal.

Together Britain Collective will:

  • Support the reopening and full restoration of Margate Winter Gardens as a major entertainment, conference, and community venue
  • Campaign for the reopening and long-term protection of the historic Theatre Royal Margate
  • Champion and support community events including Margate Pride, recognising its importance to inclusivity, tourism, and the local economy
  • Support continued investment in Dreamland Margate as a landmark attraction and year-round destination
  • Provide grant support for local theatre, music, and creative industries
  • Create a Kent Coastal Arts & Events Fund to attract performances and festivals throughout the year

Reopening and supporting these cultural anchors would:

  • Create jobs in hospitality, production, and tourism
  • Revitalise the town centre economy
  • Strengthen Margate’s inclusive identity
  • Make Thanet a true year-round destination

Culture is not a luxury — it is economic infrastructure.

2. Coastal Jobs & Enterprise Zones

We will designate parts of Thanet as Coastal Enterprise Growth Zones, delivering:

  • Business rate relief for start-ups and SMEs
  • Incentives for creative industries, digital, tourism, and green energy
  • Support for local hospitality and independent businesses
  • Grants for high street regeneration

Growth must benefit local residents — not just outside investors.

3. Housing for Local People First

We will introduce:

  • First-time buyer deposit support for Kent residents
  • Prioritised access to new builds for local families
  • Incentives for converting empty properties back into homes
  • Stronger regulation on excessive short-term holiday lets

Coastal towns must remain places where local people can afford to live and build their futures.

4. Ramsgate Maritime & Green Energy Hub

We will promote investment in the Port of Ramsgate as a green maritime hub, supporting offshore wind, marine engineering, and cross-channel trade.

The coast should once again be an engine of prosperity.

5. Skills, Youth & Lifelong Learning

  • Launch a Kent Coastal Skills Fund
  • Fund apprenticeships with local businesses
  • Support youth enterprise grants
  • Expand training in digital, green energy, hospitality leadership & marine services

No young person in Thanet should feel they must leave to succeed.

6. Health, Wellbeing & Community Investment

Through our proposed Universal Wellbeing Fund, Kent residents would receive quarterly wellbeing credits to invest in health, skills, sustainability, and community activity.

7. Infrastructure & Connectivity

We will campaign for improved rail reliability, better bus links, upgraded broadband, and safer coastal routes.

Connectivity is opportunity.

🌊 Why This Matters

Thanet and coastal Kent are rich in history, creativity, diversity, and resilience — but they need focused investment.

This flagship plan will:

  • Reopen iconic cultural venues
  • Support Pride and inclusive community events
  • Strengthen Dreamland as a major attraction
  • Create year-round jobs
  • Support first-time buyers
  • Invest in young people
  • Revitalise maritime industries
  • Restore pride in our coastal communities

Together Britain Collective believes coastal communities deserve more than survival — they deserve to thrive.
